This post is way overdue. My sister lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts (wow, that state is really hard to spell) and I go to visit at least once a year. I have been pleasantly surprised by the growing food scene there. Here's a combination of my favorite spots when I am in town and what's next up on my list. Check them out and let me know you think!
Where to EAT:
B&G Oysters Oyster bar from Barbara Lynch, a great date night jam.
Sofra The bakery and cafe that is a sister restaurant to Sarma/Oleana. Perfect for lunch.
Oleana The first restaurant from Ana Sortun, Middle Eastern fare.
Giulia Authentic Italian in Cambridge.
Sarma Most recent addition to Ana Sortun's restaurants- also a great place to grab a cocktail.
Toro This place is really fun. And really good. Tapas style Spanish food.
The Butcher Shop Another Barbara Lynch joint.
Coppa Delicious New American/ Italian spot in the South End.
Sportello Italian for "counter service" this is another Barbara Lynch spot focused on trattoria-inspired Italian dishes. This place lives above Drink.
A4 New pizza place by the guys who started Area Four.
Where to DRINK:
Backbar I don't want to say much about this place because I don't want to ruin the surprise. If you like cocktails- really good cocktails- go here.
Drink I think Boston is into cool bar experiences because this place is also very different from a typical bar and, in my opinion, nails it.
Lord Hobo Nerd out on the east coast beer scene! And while you are in MA make sure you drink Jack's Abby.
Dwelltime The best spot to get a cup of coffee.
Neighborhoods + PLACES:
Somerville This is definitely the up-and-coming hip neighborhood. Lots of places to go and see by just walking around.
The South End A lot of the places I recommend are in this hood- great food scene but hard to get to with public transit.
Shop Fog Linen Cute shop for home goods
Formaggio This place. This shop is what dreams are made of. It is so much more than a cheese shop as its name would imply. Just go and discover it for yourself.
Stir Classes and a cookbook shop
Craft Beer Cellar This place is popping out new shops like crazy. Great craft beer selection. They may or may not be planning world domination.
